Taghazout was a quiet fishing village twenty minutes up the coast from Agadir until surfers discovered its consistent right-hand point breaks in the 1960s, and today it's Morocco's most established surf town — smaller and far more laid-back than Agadir, with a walkable center, a growing number of surf camps, and some of the most reliable waves in North Africa. It works equally well as a base for a dedicated surf trip or as a relaxed day trip from Agadir.
The area around Taghazout is known for long, rideable right-hand point breaks that work well for intermediate surfers, alongside beginner-friendly beach breaks close to town. Nearby spots like Anchor Point, Killer Point and Banana Point (technically just outside the village) are some of the most consistent and well-known breaks on Morocco's Atlantic coast, drawing surfers from across Europe during the winter swell season.
Taghazout has grown a lot in the past decade but retains a compact, walkable center of surf shops, cafes and small guesthouses rather than large resort development. It's a noticeably different pace from Agadir, twenty minutes down the coast, drawing a younger, more international crowd of surfers and digital nomads. Yoga studios and casual seafood restaurants have grown up alongside the surf schools, making it comfortable for non-surfing travelers too.
If you're based in Agadir or passing through on a coastal day trip, Taghazout is an easy add-on: watch the surf from one of the cafes overlooking the point, browse the small souk, and continue on to Paradise Valley or back along the coast. It pairs naturally with a broader look at the region in our Agadir travel guide, and with wider coastal planning in our Essaouira travel guide if you're comparing Morocco's surf towns.
Surf lessons and board rentals are widely available and inexpensive by international standards, and many surf camps include accommodation, meals and daily lessons as a package. Non-surfers can still enjoy the town for its cafes, sunset views and relaxed pace. Morocco's official tourism portal has additional practical travel information for the wider Agadir-Taghazout coastal region.
