Marrakech has four gardens worth knowing about, and they're different enough that visiting all of them isn't repetitive: Majorelle is a compact, vividly designed botanical garden with a fashion history; Menara is a vast reflecting pool with Atlas Mountain views; Agdal is a working historic orchard rarely visited by tourists; and the Secret Garden is a restored riad-style courtyard garden inside the old medina. If you only have time for one, Majorelle is the standout, but each serves a different kind of visit.
Majorelle was created by French painter Jacques Majorelle in the 1920s-30s and later restored and owned by fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé, whose ashes are memorialized here. The garden's signature cobalt blue buildings, dense collection of cacti and bamboo, and small Berber Museum make it Marrakech's most photographed garden — and also its busiest, so arriving right at opening avoids the worst of the crowds.

Menara's centerpiece is a large 12th-century reflecting pool set against olive groves, with the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains visible behind it on clear days — one of the most recognizable Marrakech views. It's free to walk the grounds around the pool, making it an easy add-on rather than a dedicated outing, and it's popular at sunset when the light and mountain backdrop are at their best.
Agdal Gardens, adjacent to the Royal Palace, is a genuinely historic working orchard dating back to the 12th century, with irrigated groves of olives, pomegranates and citrus. It sees far fewer visitors than Majorelle or Menara and offers a quieter, more contemplative walk. The Secret Garden (Le Jardin Secret), tucked inside the medina near the souks, is a beautifully restored traditional riad garden with both an Islamic-style courtyard and an exotic garden, plus a small tower with rooftop medina views — a good option if you want a garden without leaving the old city.
